David Gregory was announced on December 7 as the new moderator for vaunted television program “Meet the Press,” one of the most influential and respected political TV shows in the past decade.  Yet, strangely enough, an event of such magnitude to the political realm failed to make an impact at all on the generation that will be responsible for American democracy for decades to come: up and coming voters. In this campaign, both sides fiercely attacked the other candidate’s ability to be President of the United States. One of the more absurd attacks was the allegation that Barack Obama was secretly Muslim. Although President-elect Obama spent much of his childhood in Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim country, he is a practicing Christian. Not only was this attack ignorant, but it was also intolerant in its attempt to prey on the fears of others. It was a conscious attempt to associate Mr. Obama with Islamic terrorism by means of a religion he doesn’t practice.

The 2008 election hasn’t been short on suprises, and the selection of Vice Presidents just added a new twist to this already facinating game. For months, Americans have been convinced that this election will be the most revolutionary one of our generation. Both the Republicans’ selection of Sarah Palin and Democrats’ selection Joseph Biden assure us that this will be the case all the way up to November 4. Electoral potential of both candidates aside, one can see that not only do the potential vice presidents give a little extra spice to the race, but the frenzy behind them both marks an end to the party images as we know them now and fosters a new age for both the Republicans and Democrats.

Trailing Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) by an estimated 187 total delegates according to CNN, Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY) feels increasing external pressure to give up her presidential dream. These outside forces, some supporters of her opponents and others political analysts, constantly reiterate the fact that she cannot mathematically win.
