The boys varsity cross country team narrowly lost the Prep League for the second year in a row while the girls have improved greaty since last year.

Last Friday, the boys and girls cross country teams raced in the culminating Prep League event of the season: The League Finals. Entering the meet with a shot at the league title, the varsity boys intended to solidify their position as the best Prep League team after finishing the highest of all the league teams at last year’s state championships. With strong performances all around, including a great run from soph­omore Chris Marks, who fin­ished eleventh, the boys finished second, one point behind first place Flintridge Prep. Addition­ally, the JV boys won the league finals, a closing exclamation on a great season. Finally, the var­sity girls, who needed a fantastic race in order to make CIF play­offs, accomplished their goal to enter the postseason for the 18th time in the last 19 years, after last season’s hiatus.

Senior Jenny Lamb stands out both as an excellent athlete and a motivating leader on the cross country team. Lamb has run cross-country since her freshman year, and this year, she is ranked the number one girls runner on the Poly team.

As the Auckland Grammar School visits the cross country team, the girls hope to make it to the CIF finals while the boys continue their initial success.

The Cross Country team started the season on a positive note with the varsity girls ranked tenth in CIF and the varsity boys ranked third. With a promising season ahead of them, the team members are anxiously gearing up for the rest of the season, which will end with CIF final in November.

Auckland Grammar School cross country runners visited Poly for the third time since 2002.

New Zealand’s Auckland Grammar School’s cross country team visited Poly on September 30 for a day of interaction with Upper School students. Their visit was part of a two-week tour that started in San Francisco and ended in Honolulu.

The search for greatness within Poly athletics focuses significantly on this year’s cross country team. Last year’s 3rd place finish for the boys squad at the state meet, in which they edged out fourth place finisher Flintridge Prep by just 1 point, has earned the team a 3rd place ranking among this year’s CIF competition.
