As the girls varsity volleyball team’s long and moderately suc­cessful season comes to an un­fortunate end, a few key players stand out for their overall value to the team and their great contribu­tions to the success of the team. Among these noteworthy players is Freshman Alexis Genske, who has proven to be a major asset to this year’s girls varsity volleyball team. As a newcomer to Poly’s volleyball program, Genske ex­hibited great skill and consistency in her game and has proven to ev­erybody that she deserves her spot as starting middle blocker for the team.

Freshman Alexis Genske’s and junior Hilary Bruegl’s kills car­ried the Panthers last week when the Panthers faced their first CIF wildcard game of the season. Both players stood straight and tall when it mattered most. They were quick to spike and moved with agility around the volleyball court.

As the Panthers begin their push into the 2008 girls volleyball season, the future is anything but clear. Despite moments of greatness and a 2-0 record non-league record, Poly has its work cut out for it; the Prep League is far and away the toughest in Division III-A, with three teams ranked in the top five. Whether the Panthers will rise to the challenge remains to be seen.
