Does anyone still remember Iraq?

About sixteen months ago, on these very pages, I authored a column entitled “The Disgrace of the Democrats” that rather strongly blasted the prevailing liberal sentiment at the time that demanded immediate and precipitous withdrawal from Iraq.  At the time, the media had declared a civil war and deemed the conflict a perpetual quagmire, a young senator from Illinois had sponsored a bill mandating the departure of all combat brigades by March 2008 and the Democrat Senate Majority Leader had declared that “the war [was] lost.”  Republicans were being hammered in the press and the Democrat Congress was certain that the surge had failed before it even began.
